Healthy Habits for Busy Parents

Summer time is approaching and all I can think about is tank tops, capris and sandals and of course all the fun things the little dude and I will get to do. With summer brings the perfect time to set new goals and get back into a healthy routine.

Back in January, Chris(my husband) and I started a fitness journey together. It took him awhile to come around but I knew it needed to be his decision when he wanted to and not mine. Eventually he did. I have to say that having him as a workout partner has done wonders for the both of us. With accountability, healthy eating and pushing one another to our goals. I think.....I think.....I might actually enjoy working out with him!

Have you ever looked in the mirror and disliked what you saw? Put on a pair of jeans and wanted to rip them right back off? I can relate. These are ALL emotions that I went through and ALL emotions that motivated me to make a change....I want you to know that it is NEVER too late!

Starting healthy habits isn't easy, it is ALL about routine. It just takes some dedication and a little willpower and YOU can get there. Small little changes over time will have a compound effect. One of the biggest effect of all of this will be your level of happiness with life...life will just feel so much more comfortable. Here are a few suggestions:

1- Meal Plan and Prep
It's not easy to sit down and come up with a weekly meal plan for the family but boy let me tell you, once you get onto this it is a life saver, especially is you are extremely busy. There is nothing better than waking up in the morning and already knowing what's for dinner, pulling out the meat and bam...ready to go. Not only will this save you time but it will save you money. You can go through your cupboards and see what you all ready do and don't have, making a grocery list and sticking to it. I buy far fewer items. Having the fruit and veggies cut up in pack n go containers will also keep you on the straight and narrow.

2-Setting a schedule to workout
Waking up in the morning before Jax was something I NEVER thought I would do. A tired momma needs her sleep right? It's actually the opposite, if I set my alarm, get up and workout....have my hot lemon water before he wakes...my day goes incredibly smoother. If I sleep in until he wakes up, my day is completely off course. I have learned through trial and error that so much more is accomplished if I wake up prior to him.

3- Pack Snacks
Temptation is ALWAYS there...whether it be you are out and about and feeling a little hungry so you slip through the drive thru and grab a muffin or a doughnut OR you are grocery shopping, starving and purchase some extra items. Having snacks for on the go(this is usually where I have my shakeology, with me, on the go) will also keep you from slipping off track. LOVE my shakeology!

4- Going to bed earlier
This one is one that I think I have mastered, if I am up past 10pm on any given night I feel it the next day. Getting your 8 hours a night is SO beneficial for your energy levels the next day, especially for chasing a little one.

5-Journal your food
I don`t do this ALL the time, but a did in the beginning of my journey. Knowing exactly what you are putting in your mouth will surprise you if you are putting those extra few bites the little one didn`t eat into your mouth. Just toss them, or save them for later. Try journaling your food intake for at least 3 days and you will know the areas that you need to focus on. In return, you will be more conscious of what you are putting in your mouth:)

I will be putting together a new Challenge Group beginning May 4th and I invite all of you to join me on this journey. Believe in yourself, if I can do this, than YOU can do this too. I will be right here beside you, every single step of the way:)
